Olympic Hockey OddsI'm a big hockey fan as much as I don't watch baseball, football or basketball. I happen to be Washington Capitals fan where we get to enjoy watching the best player on the planet, Alex Ovechkin (who is from Russia), every game. The Caps have and have had other Russian players as well. Its funny how much watching and cheering for Ovechkin and the other Russians has gotten me to pass that admiration and good wishes to their country of origin.
In Olympic hockey, it is only natural to cheer for the Americans over the Canadians, but the line between US hockey and Russia hockey has blurred a bit. I'm not even sure who I would cheer for if US played against Russia...it would be hard to root against Ovechkin in anything.
The Canadians will have an awesome team this year and is favored to win the gold. The Russians are favored to win the silver and Sweden rounds out the medal winners. The US...are 8:1 and to be honest, I don't think they have a chance.
So what drives who you cheer for more? Country, favorite players?
What about cities? This is discussed often as players change teams and this one is easier to know because everyone has a chance to play against some beloved players who changed jerseys and are playing against their favorite teams. For me, team first, players second. It sounds bad to say players before country in the olympics but I'm afraid that might be the case for me.
